I do wish this had been a better day for photographs. An azure blue sky would make this image perfect. But life, as Theravadan Buddha would say, is suffering, so it rained every day I was in Sukhothai.
Still, it's a compelling picture, the image of bodhisattva grace. Here, Buddha's meditation is being interrupted by Mara, evil, so he reaches to touch the earth, which grounds him and dispels Mara.
