This picture is as much about my travel partner, Katrin, who sits meditatively alongside the creek, as it is about the watercourse Dead Horse Creek has carved through the rock. As a photograph, it works pretty well on both levels, don't you think? That day formed an enduring image in my mind, even if, for years, I falsely thought the stream was named Alligator Creek. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful day for a great hike along a remarkable creek.
