A few things conspired together to create this photograph. First, I was shooting with Fuji Velvia, a transparency film which creates vivid colors. Second, it was dusk, and Velvia is particularly sensitive to the blues at dusk. Third, it was coolish and the vapour hung in the air at Yellowstone National Park's Midway Geyser Basin that day. Fourth, the great Yellowstone fire of the year before had stripped the mountain trees of their foliage.
I really didn't do any image enhancements to get the intense blue. In fact, I had to bring it back a bit in order for printers to match the image.
